The Imperial Russian Army. |
The flags on sheets 1 & 2 are Imperial flags issued 1894 to 1917. So these flags are also suitable for the Boxer Rebellion &
the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. Russian Regiments kept their flags for a long time with some Regiments going into battle during the
First World War carrying flags dating back to the Napoleonic Wars. These flags were not in very good condition. |
|
White Russian Armies. |
Although a few new designs were produced, most Regiments continued to use their old traditional flags. There is little evidence of White Russian
Infantry Regiments carrying the national white, blue red tricolour as a standard. The tricolour tended to be seen more on armoured trains and vehicles.
The famous colourful regiments had their own flags, but even those were very traditional. |
|
The Reds. |
Revolutionary banners where generally slogans on a red flag. Many were home made or presented to volunteers by towns or factories in a similar manner
to the flags used in the early days of the American Civil War. Later these became more standardised with formal regiment flags not appearing until the very end
of the period. However the tradition of carrying regimental flags into the filed was continued in the Red army into the Second World War. |
|
The Poles. |
Most of the flags in our Polish range like before are cavalry standards. Evidence from paintings of the time suggest that the Infantry Standard was very
similar to the design used by the modern Polish army. |
