ARMY LISTS

We have broken the war down into smaller time periods within the major theatres of operation. Each Period contains a list of all the armies that can be used against each other.

There are 50 Army lists & Aircraft lists for use with Panzer Marsch! covering the all the major theatres of W.W.II, plus some minor ones too.
Some lists will appear in more than one period if there has been no significant change in equipment or organisation.
The lists contain all the information that is required for a miniature army using Panzer Marsch! with tables of equipment and organisation charts all found on the one simple Army list. Vehicles and equipment not relevant to a period have been omitted.
Each link below will lead to more detail about a particular part of world war two its campaigns and the armies involved.

Opening moves - the very early desert lists.

This is a rather short but interesting little period which covers the adventures of the Italian army in East Africa and North Africa against the British before the Germans turn up. The Alpine attack on France and the Italian involvement in the Balkans, would use this Italian Army list.

Current Lists

 I1

The Italian - early war.

 B2

The British - early war Africa, includes Commonwealth forces & Free armies.

Campaigns covered include:

Italy attacks France in the Alps. 10/6/40 - 24/6/40
Operations in Somalia, Abyssinia & Eritrea. 1/8/40 - 12/5/41
Italian attack on Egypt to the arrival of the Germans. 10/6/40 - 21/2/41
Italian adventures in Albania, Yugoslavia & Greece until German intervention. 28/10/40 - 25/4/41

Features unique to this period.

Most of the vehicles featured in this period are unique only to this period, as they were either all destroyed in combat or withdrawn from service shortly afterwards.
Designed for players with Italian armies, we have limited this period to practically an Anglo-Italian Colonial side-show. It allows a reasonable game involving vehicles that are second rate even by Italian standards.
The Italian tanks are the same tanks General Franco once called "Sardine cans" in the Spanish Civil War. They however are quite useful when your opponent also has "Sardine cans", or no tanks at all.

The early desert lists.

With the arrival of Rommel in North Africa to support the Italians, a series of attacks and counter attacks begin along the North African coast. The period also includes the British support for the Greece, and the Airborne assault on Crete by the Germans, giving it a Mediterranean flavour.

Current Lists

 I2

The Italian - mid war all theatres.

 B3

The British - Desert early, includes Commonwealth forces & Free armies.

 G3

The German - Desert early.

 G9

German Motorcycle Battalion.

Campaigns covered include:

A brief trip to Greece by the British. 6/4/41 - 25/4/41
Defence of Crete. 20/5/41 - 29/5/41

Features unique to this period.

British vehicles use a different camouflage scheme in this period to the last, probably the prettiest colour scheme. German vehicles were grey but painted sand locally. All troops wore tropical kit, which means you have to buy different figures to those used in other early armies.
Italian armies can be fielded with some German support. The Italian vehicles are a slight improvement on their previous list, unfortunately for the Italians this is as good as it gets.

British vehicles use a different camouflage scheme yet again, only less colourful. The Germans start to use long barrelled tank guns, and the British start to make more use of lend lease tanks.

Greece. 6/4/41 - 25/4/41
The Airborne invasion of Crete. 20/5/41 - 29/5/41

The Axis partners one by one abandon the Germans and join the Allies. This allows you to field Pz IV's against Pz IV's. The vehicles in the German 21st Panzer army list are one off conversions the Germans made to captured French equipment. These rather odd looking vehicles are unique to this Division, and were used in Normandy only.

The Early wars in East Asia.

These are wars that became part of the whole global conflict known as W.W.II.
The period starts in 1937 when the Japanese after a number of incidents, invades China. There were also a number of border clashes between the Russians and the Japanese in the late 1930's plus Colonial unrest in Indo-China. After the fall of France in 1940 the Vichy regime in Indo-China found themselves at war with Thailand, a little heard of conflict over shadowed by events in Europe.

Current Lists

 J1

Japanese Sino-Japanese war.

Features unique to this period.

Other than the Nomonhan incident, the Japanese armour is superior to it's foes.

The Far East & Pacific war - the early part.

On 8th December 1941 a Japanese ground assault began in Southeast Asia with Malaya, Indo-China, Dutch East Indies, Philippines & many small islands falling quickly to the Japanese. By mid 1942 the Japanese expansion was at its high water mark, this is the period of Axis advance & Allied retreat.
Some of the army lists span this period & the next period, which covers the slow re-taking of territory until the Japanese surrender. The Australians for instance have a list of their own which reflects their unique equipment & organisation in the Southwest Pacific. The war in China went quiet as the Japanese concentrated their efforts on everybody else, so there is no Chinese list for this period. Due to organisational differences & the introduction of equipment at different dates, we decided to split the American forces up along Army & USMC lines instead of by date or campaign.
We must stress with these lists that attention is paid to the date limit values, plus the fact that some equipment was only used at one location e.g. The Philippines.
We have chosen the cut off date of 31/10/43 for this period, hence there are no Sherman tanks as they were first used in action in the Pacific in November 1943.

Current Lists

 J2

Japanese mid war - all out attack.

 T1

Thailand - Southeast Asia (declares war on Britain & USA).

 D2

New Guinea. Jan 1942 - 31/10/43
Aleutians. May 1943 - Aug 1943
Guadalcanal, Solomans. Aug 1942 - 31/10/43

Features unique to this period.

The Japanese get to attack, this is the period of all out attack not kamikaze or bunkers. The Americans start by defending, but must wear the old 1916 British style helmet. When they start attacking later in the period you have to use different figures. The Dutch get to use better equipment than they had back home in Holland. Thailand fights both sides briefly. There is a threat of an invasion of Australia, a sort of Operation Sealion in the Pacific, plus the home grown vehicles to go with it. The British discover tanks can be used in the Jungle. The first Chindits are used at the end of the period.
Everybody’s tanks are total junk. You can use elephants - that’s the grey animal with the big ears, not the German armoured vehicle.

The Far East & Pacific war - the late part.

Starting in November 1943 until the Japanese surrender. This period covers the Chindit operations against the Japanese in Burma, plus the eventual recapture of Burma. Okinawa. Apr 1945 - Jun 1945
Manchuria, Korea & Kuril island. 9/8/45 - 20/8/45

Features unique to this period.

The Japanese defend using bunkers, tunnels, booby traps & kamakaze attacks. The Japanese armour is useless against allied. The allies use more commando style units & engineer weapons especially flame throwers to attack with. There are a great number of amphibious assaults.

The Aircraft lists.

Due to popular demand we have added Aircraft lists.
Each list covers most of the common aircraft, and some of the not so common for all the nations there are Army lists for. We have also included some advice on the command and control nets to be used when aircraft are included in a game. Designed for people who do not wish to chase up technical information about aircraft for their game, the aircraft are listed, armed, pointed up and ready to fly.
So chocks away Ginger and Tally Ho...

Fantasy Forty-Six.

If the war had continued into 1946, what vehicles would be used?
These lists offer the chance to field all those secret projects that never reached production or entered service before the war ended. Vehicles like the German Maus, Russian ISIII and British Centurion tank can now be used against each other.

This is total fantasy it never happened.

We have compiled lists from a variety of sources that have enabled us to put together what we think could have been available, following contemporary evolutionary patterns. Please note many of the sources differ in their opinion about some of the weapon types on these lists - remember it is all hypothetical.

THESE LISTS ARE NOT TO BE USED IN HISTORICAL WWII GAMES

Current Lists

A chance to use those models you bought but are not allowed to use in a real WWII battle.

The start and end of some campaigns in most of the theatres of operation allow the use of dates as cut off points for the army lists. However in some theatres operations drifted into each other with no clearly defined cut off point.

We know for instance that particular marks of vehicle having a distinct advantage will be found in reference books to have been used in the last few days of an earlier period, where that vehicle is not listed.
This is not an error on our part but deliberate policy, as it is in the spirit of these rules that typical armies fight one another in a particular period.
Otherwise everybody ends up using equipment available on the last day of the war, all fielding the same three prototype vehicles in every game. We believe that this practise is just gamesmanship, to win at all costs on the part of players who lack of tactical abilities. Remember at the end of the day - it's just a game.

Each nationality has the same colour scheme through all the periods. For instance the Germans are always dark yellow the Russians brown. This makes for easier identification when playing a game using just the quick reference play sheets and army lists.
